Edible Harvest

May 24 - 26
Ages: 11-13
$300

Discover delicious foods that grow in the wild spaces of Homer! This three-day expedition focuses on survival skills, like shelter building and plant identification. Learn how wild plants can bring backcountry meals to the next level! We'll also be helping out Kachemak Bay State Park by cleaning up the campground area. Along with food, Homer’s coast offers strange critters, beautiful sunsets, and awesome mountain views.

Moose Valley

June 15 - 18
Ages: 12-14
$400

The Moose Valley Expedition is the perfect opportunity to enjoy the summer with friends in the outdoors. Explore a less-traveled trail system in Kachemak Bay State Park, and learn backcountry skills. This trip includes trail work to give back to the State Park, but with four days and three nights, we will have plenty of time to also enjoy the lakeside camps and wildflower meadows.

Summer Fire & Ice - S1

June 27 - July 1
Ages: 10-13
$450

Fire and Ice is composed of three day trips, followed by a camping overnight. Over the first three days, HoWLers will explore local trails and learn skills that are essential for having adventures in the Alaskan wilderness. Camping is better when you can light a warm fire and avoid being eaten by a bear. HoWLers can then practice their skills on the overnight, on a 2-day backpack in Kachemak Bay State Park.

Kachemak Crack - S1

July 7 - 10
Ages: 13+
$450

Join HoWL for the best of beach base camping at Kachemak Crack! Learn how to rock climb or practice your technique on the Salty Dawg route. If you’re not on the rocks, hop on a paddleboard or develop your fire building skills! Years ago, HoWL cleared the trails and campsites at Kachemak Crack, but they are ready for repairs so we'll be wielding some tools.

Explore Sadie

July 17 - 21
Ages: 14+

Explore Sadie on this participant-directed expedition. With kayaks and backpacks at our disposal, we can hike Sadie Knob into the alpine, kayak deep into Sadie Cove, or both!  Collaborate with expedition leaders to form the expedition experience.

Experienced outdoor educators and aspiring volunteers will spend five days learning HoWL's unique teaching methodology while making trail improvements on Alpine Ridge trail. We'll practice remote risk management scenarios and discuss topics in the outdoor industry. If you are interested in volunteering for HoWL, you can email us to inquire.

“Howl is the best camp in Alaska. It’s a great way to meet new people, make friends with the wilderness, and get outdoors! I have had such a great experience on each of the seven trips that I’ve been a part of!”

–Zach Guillian, HoWLer since 2010
